e
l'opera-ballo Le
Villi di
Giacomo Puccini. In
The villi are part of Slavic, Celtic and German mythology. They are fairies that live in the woods, beautiful feminine creatures, skilled seductresses and vengeful entities. From these mythological ideas are born two works of theater from which the story is inspired: the classical-romantic ballet Giselle and the dance-opera Le Villi by Giacomo Puccini. In both, Villi respond to the request of vengeance of souls that have been betrayed. These creatures of the forest are dancing wildly until bringing the traitor to death. The Villi are creatures of the night, elemental spirits of the air. Their name binds to Sylphs, who are also beautiful creatures with the ability to maintain a youthful appearance for years. The Sylphs, soulless beings, rise and use men, by making love with them to give birth to a new creature with a soul. The the name Sylph is still defined as beetles pallbearers. They seek decomposing bodies to lay their eggs to feed the new larvae. With the death of a species creates a life, a new creature for their offspring. This is the field from which "Villi" was born: a legend, a work, a game created by the multiplie meanings of the term Sylph. The atmosphere that we would like to create with Villi is between real and unreal, through the video and sound. Pictures that prompt fantasy are scattered in history, such as, the clouds moving in an unusual way imitates the inconsistency of the Villis and their movements. The woods: the quintessence of the fantasy world, with its colors and the type of light that is far from true. The sound emphasizes the wind, the breath, to help lure of presence of these creatures. Not only the sound of the wind but also all the noise associated, with the movement of the Villis, work to create an imaginary world, such as, the beating of butterfly wings, and the breath of a Villis, bears the will of so many betrayed souls.
